Warming Up

Gideon: Well, look who’s here.
Andrea: Ah, Mr. Bennett, isn’t it?
Gideon: Gideon, please, Ms. Sebastian. Or may I call you Andrea?
Andrea: Perhaps. It will depend on your reason for being here.

Gideon: Most likely the same reason you’re here….. auditions?
Andrea: Yes – but I’m surprised you’ve shown up for something like this. I thought you only did live theater.
Gideon: It never hurts to branch out in this business. Now seemed like a good time - I’m not in the mood to go back to New York.
Andrea: Things a little sticky for you there?

Gideon: What makes you ask that?
Andrea: A certain column in that inexplicably popular gossip sheet. Ms. Townsend-Adams seemed to be expressing more than idle curiosity about your comings and goings. Old flame?
Gideon: We saw each other for a while – a casual thing, at least it was from my point of view.

Andrea: At least you’re honest about it.
Gideon: Here’s a little more honesty for you, since you appreciate it. I could use a little brush up on my skills before my audition. I haven’t danced in a while and the role is pretty demanding in that department. Want to run through a warm up with me?

Andrea: Sure. Why not?
Gideon: Come on then. I know where there’s room to take a few turns.

Gideon: You haven’t really explained why you’re here. Expanding your horizons?
Andrea: Well, as you know, modeling is my career choice, but I’ve always enjoyed trying something new and different.
Gideon: Is that a fact? And what makes you think you can act?

Andrea: Well, I won’t really know for sure unless I try, will I? I merely expressed interest and left my number for them to call – and they did.
Gideon: You know, I did try to call. I just didn’t leave a message. I don’t talk to those canned greetings, because I never know who I’ve managed to reach on the other end.

Andrea: It’s a shame you gave up so easily. I actually gave you my real number.
Gideon: I still have it. I’ll be sure to use it next time. And for more than a single try if necessary.

Andrea: We do move well together.
Gideon: It appears we’re well matched.

Gideon: And I’m certainly warmed up now.
Andrea: Stop ……….. right there.

Gideon: Shall we continue with the task at hand?
Andrea: By all means.

Andrea: Your steps are perfect. I doubt you’ve forgotten anything.
Gideon: It didn’t take long to start coming back to me.
Andrea: I think it didn’t take long for you to start playing games.
Gideon: Is that what you think?

Gideon: I’ll find another warm-up partner.
Andrea: Giving up so soon – again?

Gideon: Now that that’s out of the way…..

Andrea: You….. bastard!

Gideon: *applauding* Bravo, Ms. Sebastian! A fine performance indeed. I do have a little acting advice for you, however. “Outrage” is a bit more convincing when one does not participate so ….. enthusiastically.
Andrea: Duly noted, Mr. Bennett. Now, if you'll excuse me, I wouldn't want to miss my audition after that superlative warm-up.
