A Matter of Trust, Part Two

Kohana: Kaida you know I do usually trust you, but I have to ask. What are you asking Asher to get for you?
Kaida: Just an autograph, Aneko. From a performer. Nothing I couldn’t get myself, but I didn’t know how to go about it. Nothing underhanded or illegal, if that’s what you were thinking. Sheeeeesh.

Kohana: No, or course I….. Oh, I’m sorry, Kaida, I might have thought it was something along those lines for a minute, but then I remembered it was YOU asking and so it couldn’t be … I can’t seem to help jumping to conclusions in such things and….Oh, I am not handling this well at all…
Kaida: Why do you always think that you can’t trust anyone? Aneko, I KNOW there are people I shouldn’t trust. But Asher’s an okay guy, really. He’s not one of the creepazoids. Everyone likes him AND respects him. He’s NOT you-know-who.
Kohana: Ah well……..

Kaida: Kinda blew that one, didn’t ya?
Kohana: Yes. I did. I was rude and judgmental and I didn’t mean to be. I was worried about you, but that’s no excuse either. And at this point I would certainly insist that you apologize, if you had just acted as I did, so I suppose I’d better figure out a way to do just that.

Kaida: Hey Asher?
Asher: Yeah Shortstuff?
Kaida: If Kohana apologizes to you, would you forgive her?
Asher: Sure I would, but it sure would help to know what made her get so upset in the first place, so I don’t make her angry all over again. Was it that thing I said about trusting people?

Kaida: Well, maybe a little. See, she broke up with her boyfriend a little while ago. She doesn’t talk about it a lot, but I know she was really, really hurt and all. She hasn’t been quite the same since. And as far as your driving goes…
Asher: Something wrong with my driving?

Kaida: No, not at all, but Kohana’s high school sweetheart was killed in an accident, and they always said it was his fault, the way he was driving. It was more than five years ago, but she’s still kinda obsessive about safe driving. I didn’t want you to think she was nutso – she does have a good reason for acting like she does.
Asher: If I ever get the chance, I’ll reassure her that I am a careful driver. My Grandma taught me to drive, and she could never stand to go too fast. So I just got in the habit of being extra careful and going slowly, I guess. You tell her that, in case I don’t see her to tell her myself.
Kaida: I will, but I know you’ll see her, at least once more anyway. She said she was going to apologize to you, and when she makes up her mind to do something like that, she always follows through.

Asher: Well, thanks for explaining some of it to me. I have a feeling your sister won’t be offering any of those same explanations, will she?
Kaida: No, she’s more likely to just apologize and run. I think she was embarrassed by her outburst. Thanks for understanding. And…. I’m trying not to meddle, but I still think you two would be perfect for each other!
Asher: Once a meddler, always a meddler – let me make my own connections, huh kiddo?
Kaida: (longsuffering sigh) If you must!

Kaida: (to herself) You just wait and see – bet I'm right about this...
