A Matter of Trust

Kaida: So, can you get something like that for me, do you think?
Asher: Autographs? Sometimes, but are you sure you want that particular one? Not some boy band hottie or studly actor guy or something?
Kaida: Nope, I’m sure. See, it’s a present for somebody, not for me.
Asher: I suppose so, then. Next time the symphony plays and someone I know is working the hall, I’ll try. Now… are you sure you needed that ride today? I didn’t notice you hobbling around the theater at all today – you wouldn’t be putting me on, would you?
Kaida: No, not me! My ankle isn’t real bad anymore, but it’s worse when I’m on it too long.
Asher: I don’t see one bit of evidence of any injury…
Kaida: Well look right here then… See that little bruise?
Kaida: Silly, it’s right here! …
Kaida: OH, Kohana! When did you get home?
Kohana: I’ve been home – just upstairs, now what is going on here? And what did I just walk in on?
Kaida: Nothing, I was just asking Asher to use his connections to get something for me, that’s all. It’s only…
Kohana: Connections?!? I want to know what this is all about!
Asher: I’m going to have to let Kaida tell you, if she wants you to know. She says it’s for a surprise and I wouldn’t want to spoil it for her. But you can trust her, she’s a good kid.
Kohana: Excuse me, but I’ll decide who I can and can’t trust, thanks. And whether I do or do not trust my SISTER isn’t the issue here.
Asher: I get the feeling you don’t trust ME for some reason. In fact, you seem like you don’t trust much of anything… or anyone.
Kohana:I prefer to reserve judgment before making an important assessment of anyone’s character. I’ve learned my lesson about trusting too easily and I do NOT want Kaida to have a similar experience - even if I have to be more than a little suspicious of people. Like YOU for instance. I WILL protect her - in any way I can.
Asher: Fine, you protect her, that’s your job. Guess I better get back to MINE. So long, Kaida. I’ll try to get what you wanted, but it might take a while.
(dead silence)
Kohana: Well.
Kaida: Yeah, well. (more silence)
