Help From a Stranger

Kohana: Asher, do you have a minute? I really hate to bother you at work.
Asher: Not a problem – what’s up?
Kohana: I’m sorry. I certainly wouldn’t call at all but this is really important.
Asher: Really, no problem. I’ll help if I can. What’s the trouble?

Kohana: I wonder if you’ve noticed anything different about Kaida lately? You see her almost as much as I do these days. Suddenly she seems so unhappy and I can’t help being worried. She’s almost never down…
Asher: Seems as cheerful as ever around here. Chatters away like a magpie, as my Grandma used to say. I haven’t noticed any change in her mood at all. What’s she doing that’s worrying you?

Kohana: She just seems very sad. Just sits quietly and keeps to herself. She hasn’t even been nagging me to take her places or go out or anything like she usually does. It’s awfully strange, and I’m starting to think something is very wrong.
Asher: So it’s happening there, but not here? Have you two had some kind of argument or something?

Kohana: No! Why would you assume that?
Asher: Settle down, Kohana. I wasn’t accusing you of anything.
Kohana: Well it sounded like you were trying to blame me for everyth….……..no, I'm sorry. I’m not thinking straight – I’m really worried. Anything you can tell me will be a big help.
Asher: I really haven’t seen what you are describing, but tell you what – when she comes into rehearsal today I’ll pull her aside and see if I can find out anything. Will that ease your mind some?

Kohana: Oh, yes, that would be a big help. If she’ll talk to you. And I’m sorry again for misunderstanding. It makes me uncomfortable to have to trust a stranger for help like this.
Asher: Stranger? Haven’t we managed to get to “friend” yet? Never mind, I’ll talk to Kaida and get back with you.
Kohana: Thank you. Again. For your help.
