For Pete’s Sake, Don’t Forget Valentine’s Day!

Pete: The other day, Kaida came in to work and asked me what I was doing for Valentine’s Day…..

Pete: DOH!

Pete: Yeah. I forgot.

Pete: After I got done panicking, I got to thinking about it. I thought a lot….

Pete: But every single idea I came up with…… was really lame.

Pete: Flowers are a sure-fire Valentine’s pleaser. Only problem is….

Pete: I waited too long, and the florist was booked full. Woulda been a bit of a drive to take them there myself. So then I thought, okay, Pete, you’ve got a whole stage at your disposal, and all this sound equipment…. You could recite a poem, maybe some Shakespeare or something, set a timer, videotape it, send it along….

Pete: *loudly* But soft, what light through yonder window breaks?

Asher: *offstage* Now who broke a window?
Pete: Drat. Never gonna be able to do this with other people around. Just as well, I’m more of a “roses are red” kinda guy.

Pete: Then I thought, hey, what about getting my portrait done and sending it along? So I started practicing this sexy beefcake look…

Pete: …But I just looked ludicrous. Some guys just aren’t cut out for that stuff, and there’s a good chance I’m one of ‘em. Then Dad caught me practicing in the mirror like this, and after he picked himself up off the floor from where he collapsed laughing, he said to me: “Pete, I’m gonna give you some advice, man-to-man. Well, woman-to-man-to-man…. something your Mom told me when we were dating and I kept making a fool of myself trying to impress her. She said I should just be myself and speak from the heart. Said most ladies appreciate honesty and sincerity more than grandiose gestures.”

Pete: Be myself? I bet I can do that! So here goes:

Pete: Hey, Persephone, I think you’re a great girl. You’re pretty and smart and fun to be around and you make me laugh. Any guy would be lucky to have such a wonderful Valentine. I’ll be yours if you’ll be mine. What do you say?
