Paying A Debt

Kaida: What’s this?
Donovan: Something I thought you’d enjoy.

Kaida: (suspiciously) I repeat – what’s this?
Donovan: Not what you’re thinking. It’s the key to the wardrobe storeroom.

Kaida: (even more suspicious) How’d you get this? Word around here is that Dolores sleeps with it under her pillow.
Donovan: I heard that one too, but it’s not true. The proof’s right there in your hand.
Kaida: Oh. Guess she must have a lot of work waiting for me in there or something.

Donovan: (grinning) Nope.
Kaida: Eeeeeep! Was that a smile? Don’t scare me like that! Really, what’s the key for?
Donovan: Thought you might like to go in there, look around, try some costumes on…. play……… I hear you like to do that.

Kaida: Nuh-uh, not me. I never do tha……who told you?
Donovan: The proverbial little bird? (Kaida shakes head) No? Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but your penchant for playing dressup is a well-known fact around here. Everyone knows that about you. And one thing you need to know about me is that I always pay my debts.

Donovan: This is my pitiful attempt to thank you for bringing Elena’s message to my attention earlier. Thanks, Kaida.

Kaida: Geez, a smile AND a thank you…..Um… you’re welcome. So I really get to go in there? And Dolores gave you permission? How’d you manage that?
Donovan: I convinced the “management” to give her a budget increase for outfitting the next production. A two-hundred percent increase.

Kaida: Wow – you must be some smooth talker when you work at it. Your talents are wasted in directing. You ought to have been a magician. Or maybe a con artist.

Donovan: (laughs) Just go – play, have fun.
Kaida: Going! Thanks!
