Hey Kenzo, Let Me Tell You About My Vacation

Originally posted on July 4, 2007

Dear Kenzo:

I just got back from vacation this week and I wanted to show you some pictures that were taken while I was there. We went to Washington State and I had the chance to visit some really beautiful places.

On the first day there, we went up to the Northern Cascades.

Now pay real close attention to all the pictures. There’s going to be a quiz later on. The morning started out pretty cool, especially in the shade.

Later on it got warmer, but it wasn’t hot, like it probably was back home in West Virginia. In fact, the weather was great – just enough clouds to make the sky interesting and no rain at all.

I tell you, a person can feel really small around all that bigness. It’s a lot harder to ponder world domination when you’re feeling so teensy, that’s for sure.

This is Diablo, a dam that helps provide electric power to a lot of the state. Right behind me is a real sheer drop off, which is why I am sitting on the front side of this rock. I couldn’t even see the bottom of that cliff, but it was a long, long way down.

This might be Damnation Creek. If it isn’t, I am going to pretend it is anyway ‘cuz the name is so much fun. There definitely was a Damnation Creek there – I even saw the sign! There were streams and waterfalls everywhere. For a while there I thought we were going to stop at every one of them, too! They do make for nice pictures, don’t they?

It was really cool that you could see mountains almost everywhere you looked, and lots of water. The trees were taller than any I had ever seen.

In this case I was kinda glad the ‘workers’ were long gone before I showed up.

The moss grows on the trees so thick there it was like touching a springy blanket. It was all soft and spongy, not yucky or slimy.

Well? Are you ready for your quiz now? Have you been looking and listening? Here it is – just one question: What is wrong in each and every one of these pictures?

...........................................Give up?

The problem with every single picture taken on my vacation is that empty space beside me. The places where I sat were always missing someone, and that someone was you.

Sincerest of thanks to my friend Becky, who drove me and my resin kids around for two straight days so I could see the sights and take all the pictures I wanted. Thanks, Becky – you’re the best! ----Jill
