Of Leftovers and Dessert
Kohana: OK, enough idleness, time for me to clean up from dinner.
Asher: Oh, is that why Kaida and Kenzo took off so fast?
Kohana: No doubt that had something to do with it.
Asher: Can I help you with anything?
Kohana: Well, that depends. Are you the type that offers, hoping to be turned down, or do you really want to help?
Asher: Is this a test?
Kohana: (smiling) Come on, you can help me pack up the leftovers – maybe you’d like to take some home with you?
Asher: Leftovers would be good. I don’t usually take the time to have a real meal, so this one was great. Even better if I get to have more later on.
Kohana: I don’t prepare a big meal often – only on special occasions. That’s really the only time I enjoy it. But the leftovers can be hard to get rid of, so you’re actually doing me a favor.
Asher: Bring ‘em on then – I’m a growing boy. Anything else I can do to help you out?
Kohana: No, everything else is done – just keep me company while I put this all away.
Asher: Company, huh? My pleasure.
Kohana: Asher, I won’t get much done this way.
Asher: No? What a shame… Mmmmm, not the promised leftovers, but definitely worthy of seconds…. or thirds….
Kohana: If you don’t let me get up, you won’t get your dessert.
Asher: I thought this was my dessert. Must not have read the menu right.
Kohana: Asher, can I be serious for a minute?
Asher: Uh-oh, the S-Word. What’d I do now?
Kohana: Nothing, but…. I’m sorry – I’m not sure I’m comfortable with moving this fast. A couple days ago, we were just friends. And now…
Asher: What about now?
Kohana: Now … it’s different. But I don’t really know you any better now than I did, and I don’t handle change very well, especially quick, unexpected change. I think I might need to…. slow down a little…
Asher: We can slow down. Take more time getting to know each other. Anything you need, really.
Kohana: Thank you.
Asher: Guess my feelings changed well before yours. This doesn’t feel new or unexpected to me….
Asher: …One thing though… Can I be serious, too?
Kohana: Yes, of course.
Asher: I could seriously go for some dessert – whatcha got?
