Continued from “Ghost Writer”

Kohana: But a ghost writer is someone who writes for another person – it doesn’t refer to an actual ghost!

Amanda: Just my little joke, dear. A bit of a habit, you see - Edward always enjoyed wordplay, and I enjoyed indulging him as much as possible. He would have derived a little amusement from me calling Asher a ghost writer, don’t you think?

Kohana: I…..I guess so…..(under her breath) Honey…….. you have some real explaining to do.

Amanda: Don’t be too hard on him, Miss Sasaki. My presence has been kept a secret at my request. Asher has recently put his foot down and refused to work further on my play, until I would give him leave to tell you about me.

Asher: Your play, eh, Amanda?
Kohana: Is that true, Asher?

Asher: Yes, Sweetheart. I don’t like to keep anything from you, you know that.
Kohana: Were you as amazed as I was….I mean, as I am?
Asher: At first, yeah. I kind of suspected all along that there was something to this place…. something more than the obvious and the visible….but it felt weird having the proof right in front of me. I thought you’d have a hard time with the concept though, so I allowed Amanda to talk me into keeping her secret – for a little while.

Amanda: Just as he talked me into finally giving it up. Once I saw you together, I decided you also could be entrusted with knowing about me.
Asher: I’m even more amazed by your reaction, Kohana. I never in a million years would have expected you to take the news that we were haunted with so much equanimity.
Amanda: Haunted? Dear boy, you know I don’t care for that word.
Kohana: It’s just like anything else I’m not familiar with, Asher – it’s something to find out more about. I’m afraid I will be pestering Amanda with my many questions before long. As soon as I can think straight again…..

Amanda: And I am more than willing to be “pestered,” if only you will wait until the play is completed. For now, the precious bits of time we have must be spent on that. I do not want its opening delayed; I will do all in my power to see that never happens again.
