Ignoring the Facts

Cassandra: You shouldn’t have come. You agreed to give me time to think.
Eli: Under protest. But that was before I knew what you were thinking.
Cassandra: I doubt you know that now.
Eli: I know enough. Enough to know that you’re wrong.
Cassandra: (bristling) Oh really? And what is it that I am so wrong about?
Eli: You’re wrong about what I think. And that’s my fault.
Cassandra: It’s ridiculous to lay blame for our basic incompatibility, Eli. Just like it’s ridiculous to try to pretend it doesn’t exist. You are who you are, and I am who I am. For a while I thought….. I thought I could figure out a way around it, but it looks like I was only fooling myself.
Eli: So you’re going to rely on your books and the advice of “experts,” and I’m supposed to just accept that?
Cassandra: It’s always foolish to ignore the facts.
Eli: Let me be the fool then; I don’t give a damn about your experts and your facts. And I’m just not ready to give up, because you don’t have all the facts. Like I said, that’s my fault–
Cassandra: Eli, I just don’t think I can go over this again….
Eli: Somehow I hurt you and I want the chance to make it right. Somehow you got the wrong idea about how I felt and I want to try to explain.
Cassandra: Very well, Eli. I’ll listen… one last time.
Eli: That’s all I'm asking. If you still want me to go afterwards, I’ll go.
Cassandra: Fair …….fair enough.
Eli: Can we go someplace a little more private? Is that possible?
Cassandra: Yes, come with me.
Cassandra: Now, what is it that you think I am so wrong about?
Eli: Marty Jean said something to me when I saw her at the show that made me think you got the wrong impression last time we were together.
Cassandra: Marty Jean had no right to repeat anything I told her.
Eli: Well, I’m glad she did anyway. Because now I have a chance to set you straight.
Eli: Cassandra …..how did you ever come to the conclusion that I didn’t want you?
