Kaida: Can I hand them out? Can I? Can I? Can I?
Asher: Sure Kaida, you wanna play Santa? Knock yourself out.
Kaida: Thanks! And just for the record, Asher, I thought it was a great idea to draw names this year.
Jeremiah: Me too.
Pete: Yeah, me three.
Kaida: And it was an even better idea to make it a gag gift exchange. Can’t wait to see what this crazy bunch came up with. So….. who do we have first? Here we go…… this one’s for Pete.
Pete: From……. Asher, huh?
Pete: OK, OK, boss, I get the book, but what’s with the Karaoke CD?
Asher: A little bird told me you might be interested in someone who sings…..I got that Karaoke CD at a gift exchange last year and ….well, can you ever see me using it? Maybe your friend will enjoy it.
Pete: Could be, could be…… hey, thanks.
Kaida: OK, Jeremiah’s next!
Jeremiah: From…. Santa Kaida?
Kaida: Yep! (stifling her glee)
Jeremiah: Heh, heh, guess I shoulda known. Hey, short person, shouldn’t you keep these for yourself?
Kaida: Nope, not with all you stilts around to bother anytime I need to reach something that’s too high up for me. Haven’t had to climb the scaffold all week.
Jeremiah: These are really bad – but I love ‘em! Thanks!
Kaida: (giggles) Sorry, can’t help it – every time I think about how tall you’re gonna be in those boots…. too funny.
Kaida: Here, you go, Asher. Hmmmmmm, heavy.
Asher: Wow, sure is. How heavy is coal?
Jeremiah: Have you been that bad this year?
Asher: Me? Nah, not me. This is from…. Pete - and ALL the techie crew.
Asher: Uh-oh……. (opens the box, laughs) Chocolate-covered espresso beans?
Pete: Yeah, no more running low on caffeine.
Asher: Ah, yes, good plan. So this is really for you guys….
Pete: Oh yeah, because boy, do we suffer when you have a coffee crisis.
Asher: All right, all right. I know I can be a little difficult without my coffee….
Pete: A little difficult, like those boots of Jer’s have a little extra sole.
Asher: Hey!
Kaida: Now, now, boys, no arguing on Christmas. Here’s mine…. And it’s from…….. Dolores???? I didn’t know she was in on this.
Asher: I added her at the last minute. She had something just for you, so I made sure she got your name.
Kaida: (opens box and finds a duplicate of a costume gown she’s “borrowed” before) Oh, wow…….I…. oh-my-gosh…….this isn’t a joke present, I mean, she’s not going to yell at me and take it back, is she?
Asher: I don’t think so. But you never know. Dolores is pretty hard to read.
Pete: Not really. She always looks scary to me and guess what? She is!
Kaida: This is….. this is…….(bursts into tears)
(Jeremiah hands her the tissues)
Jeremiah: You were right.
Asher: I knew she would.
Kaida: Would what?
Jeremiah: Cry. Asher said you’d love it so much you’d cry. Even offered me a wager, but there was no way I was betting against that.
Kaida: I….I…. it’s a great gift. But….. oh dear….. who had to get a gift for Dolores? That couldn’t have been easy…..
Jeremiah: Uh, that would be me. Picking it out was a piece of cake.
Kaida: It was?
Jeremiah: Yeah. But delivering it will be another story. I think….. I’m afraid of her.
Pete: You learn fast.
Kaida: We all are at first, Jeremiah. I’ll take it to her – I have to thank her for the gown – it’s so wonderful and…..
Kaida: ……….Do you want to come along with me? Deliver it yourself?
Jeremiah: Not really. Can’t I just stay here and cower in fear…..?
Kaida: (tugs his hand) No, come on silly. She’ll be okay today, ‘specially if you’re with me.
(they leave)
Pete: What the heck did he get for Dolores? Do you know?
Asher: Nope, I’m as curious as you are.
Pete: Wanna go spy on ‘em?
