With Eyes Closed (Part One)

Director: No, no, no, no, no……….CUT!

Director: Andrea, you look like you’d rather be anywhere else. Please do what the scene calls for. And dammit, close your eyes when you kiss!
Andrea: I’m sorry. I’ll work on my expression.
Director: Do that. I don’t want to be here all night.
Gideon: *under his breath, but enough so Andrea can hear* It’s a little late to work on anything, Andrea. When the cameras roll, it’s time to perform, not practice.

Andrea: *under her breath* I am doing what you taught me.
Gideon: *without moving his lips* Are you? I sure didn’t teach you to lean into a kiss with your eyes open.
Director: Haven’t you been working on this scene, Gideon?
Gideon: Yes, we have. It’s possible that it’s just an off day.
Director: You don’t have off days.

Gideon: No, I don’t. But it appears Ms. Sebastian does.
Andrea: *gritting her teeth* Oh of course, let the newbie take the blame.
Gideon: *still very low-voiced* Why not? That’s where it all lies.
Director: Take it from “Not once before,” Gideon. Andrea, are you ready?
Andrea: Yes, I am.

Gideon: “Not once before, in my entire life, have I understood Adam. I’ve cursed him for his weakness, for listening to Eve, for visiting upon all mankind the sin nature God abhors ”
Andrea: “Adam was but a man, Brother Ezekiel. As are you. ‘Tis a man’s lot to suffer temptation”
Gideon: “Not this man. Not this much. And never as I suffer it now, with you so near”

Andrea: “I will leave. I do not wish to be your downfall”
Gideon: “That would be best...”

Gideon: “…but it’s too late. If I am to be damned for this, then let me be damned”

Director: And….. cut! All right. Much improved. I think we can use this. That’s it for the day, folks.

Gideon: Change out of your costume and report to class, Ms. Sebastian. And plan on staying very, very late.
to be continued…
