Edward: Amanda…
Amanda: Edward! That didn’t take as long as you thought it would, did it?
Edward: No. Amazingly, the board meeting was over on time.
Amanda: I had hoped to have more time before you returned. I had a surprise for you.
Edward: (indulgently) Did you now? Do you believe I am the sort of man who likes to be surprised?
Amanda: Oh darling, I know you don’t necessarily enjoy surprises. This was a nice one, though.
Edward: I regret that I spoiled your surprise, my dear. Won’t you tell me what it was?
Amanda: I wanted to show you my gown – and to tell you that I was already prepared for opening night. I spent most of today putting the finishing touches on everything I would need.
Edward: The opening is nearly a month from now, Amanda.
Amanda: That is why it was a surprise, Edward. You know I am rarely ready for anything on time.
Edward: And you know that doesn’t matter to me in the least.
Amanda: I know. I do try, Edward. But there are some things that always elude me. You are sweet to put up with me.
Edward: Amanda, what is it? This doesn’t sound at all like you.
Amanda: I know, I am usually able to hide it better, but sometimes it hurts so terribly that I can’t change….that there are things that I can’t… I can’t…..
Edward: (very quietly, as he realizes what is wrong) I am sorry, my love. Perhaps soon…
Amanda: Edward, it’s been ten years. ‘Soon’ was over a long time ago.
Edward: But ‘too late’ is still very far away.
Amanda: What if it never happens? What if I can never have a child?
Edward: You will always have me. And I would rather have you than anyone else in the world. That will never change, whether or not we are blessed with the babies you want so desperately.
Edward: I love you, wife of mine.
Amanda: And I love you, my Edward. Eternally.

Asher: Here I am.
Kohana: (teasing) No one seemed to know where you’d gotten to. Why are you hiding out up here? Have you been working on your new play?
Asher: I’ve been trying to…..Kohana…….. I think I need to tell you something.
