This is Dedicated to the One… (Part Two)

Annette: Will things change for you, now that you’re famous?
Dana : I don't know that one best seller qualifies me as "famous". My next book could fall flat on its face and I would be yesterday's news. But funny thing - someone in the airport recognized me from the book cover photo, called a friend over and the next thing I knew, I had a small group around me asking for autographs. *laughing* I must have signed about 20 before I was able to get away and pick up my luggage.
Annette: Quite the celebrity, aren’t you? Was it exciting?

Dana : Yeah, it was sure different from what I'm used to. I doubt that half of those people really knew who I was. Crowds tend to draw crowds, you know.
Annette: Crowds also draw reporters. Did you have an opportunity to speak with any?
Dana : Nope, no reporters. Which was just as well since I am dedicating all future interview exclusives to one cute little blonde reporter.

Annette: Speaking of dedications, I was honored to be named in the dedication of your book. Also, a little embarrassed, because I really didn’t do anything to deserve it.
Dana : Are you kidding? I bet that your interview generated at least half - or more - of the attention that this book has been receiving. I've never had one of my books hit the best seller list - and in a week. That doesn't happen very often.
Annette: A week? That’s amazing!

Annette: Maybe it will make you so rich, you can take time off to write a serious novel. You’re very talented - you could do it.
Dana : *grinning* I could live with being rich. But I'm fine with writing the romance novels. Really don't have any intention of writing anything that requires too much effort, you know.

Annette: But…. what a shame to waste your talent that way, Dana. Think about it: you could make an important contribution to modern-day literature….
Dana : What I write makes me good money, Annette. And it makes people happy, entertains thousands, maybe soon it will be millions. Isn’t that a worthwhile contribution?
*After an uncomfortable silence, Annette gets up and moves to another part of the overlook*

Annette: I guess I don’t understand.

Dana : *to himself* No, I don’t guess you do.

Annette: We should be getting back. The sun’s going down, and it’s a long drive down the mountain.

Annette: Tell you what – I’m going to take you out to dinner, to celebrate your best-seller status.
Dana : I should be the one taking you out. You know a good place?
Annette: Yes, they serve dinner at a nice little rustic lodge just a few miles away. Dress is casual so our jeans will be okay. But it’s my treat – I’m afraid I insist on getting my way, otherwise I won’t show you where it is.
Dana : I won’t argue with that. Lead on, Annette.

Annette: You paid, didn’t you, when I ducked into the gift shop?
Dana : Yeah. I figured it was the least I could do for the gal that's making me rich.

Annette: Thank you.
