Donovan: Hello? Anyone here?
Kaida: You’ve found “anyone.” Who were you looking for?
Donovan: I was wondering if Asher was around… Does he come in later in the day?
Kaida: No, he’s away for a while. Pete and I are kinda in charge though – what can we do for you?
Donovan: He’s away? You have got to be joking. But he said…… And he left you in charge?
Kaida: Yep. No joke. He’s been out of town all week. He’s due back in….
Donovan: Look, I didn’t come all this way to deal with some kid. Man, I really could have used more time, too….
Kaida: Asher didn’t say a thing about expecting visitors. Maybe you should have had the courtesy to call first if you were expecting to see him and not some “kid.”
Donovan: What are you, the courtesy police? He has to have gotten his dates mixed up - I know this is the right day….. but I’m not going to waste my time arguing with you. Why don’t you run along and find this Pete so I can deal with a responsible grownup? I don’t have time for….
Kaida: Fine! (yells) Pete! Peeeeeeeete! Someone here to insult – I mean - SEE you! I am sooo out of here. (leaves)
Pete: What, Kaida? (enters) Oh, hi there. What can I do for ya?
Donovan: Not another one – you’re Pete?
Pete: Last time I checked, yep.
Donovan: The one who’s supposedly in charge? I might have made a mistake coming here. Asher damn sure never mentioned what an amateurish operation he was running…
Pete: Hunh. Wondered why Kaida sounded all irritated there. She usually enjoys talking to visitors, but your attitude would piss off Miss Congeniality.
Donovan: If anyone has a right to be irritated, it’s me. I thought I had an appointment….Isn’t there someone I can deal with that’s old enough to vote?
Pete: We’re between productions right now so staff’s at a minimum. Guess if you can’t wait for Asher to get back you’re stuck with us “kiddies”.
Donovan: What a hell of a mess...
Kaida: I say we take him to Dolores. Let her deal with him, since he insists on talking to someone “older”……
Pete: No way, Kaida, I didn’t wear my flak jacket today.
Donovan: Who’s this Dolores?
Pete: (mumbles) Your worst nightmare. (aloud) Uh, wardrobe lady. Believe me, you do not want to go there.
Donovan: Listen……. Kaida, is it? You work here?
Kaida: No, I just volunteer. I can’t draw a salary until I graduate from kindergarten….
Donovan: Figures. An intern. You have a way of getting a hold of Asher wherever he is? He’s got a lot explaining to do.
Kaida: (sweetly) Why yes, of course, you could call his girlfriend’s cell phone – she might even have it turned on.
Donovan: You have the number?
Kaida: Oh yes, Sir, I surely do.
Donovan: (impatiently) Well? May I have it please?
Kaida: Sure… Here you go. His girlfriend will probably answer, and you’ll have to go through her to get to him. So turn on the old charm – if you have any. Her name’s Kohana.
Donovan: No problem, I’m sure she’s a lot more easily “charmed” than you two are.
Pete: Wouldn’t count on it –
Donovan: (smugly) Just watch me.
Pete: Kohana is Kaida’s sister.
Donovan: Damn.
