A Bigger Favor

Asher: Could I maybe bribe you to do something for me?
Kohana: I’m not usually susceptible to bribes, Asher.
Asher: Don’t I know it. But this is just a friendly favor, even though it’s kind of a big one and pretty nervy of me to ask.
Kohana: Now you’ve got me curious. What is it you need?
Asher: I wonder if you could open your home to a guest, someone who might be visiting for a few weeks. I know it’s a lot to ask.
Kohana: A visitor? A stranger?
Asher: Yes, let me explain. Eli has been corresponding with someone, a female someone, and he’s invited her to visit. And for some strange reason she has accepted the invitation and plans to arrive very soon. I’m sure he’s thinking she can stay here, but even if there was enough room I don’t think it’s a very good plan.
Kohana: You’re talking about Cassandra Godard, of course.
Asher: Yeah – how did you know?
Kohana: Oh, Kaida and her network of online buddies keep me well informed. She especially likes to tell me whenever Eli has gotten into some situation she thinks is funny. Apparently he’s providing a lot of grist for the mill lately.
Asher: Yeah I can see where she might enjoy that. Eli-Watching can be pretty hilarious entertainment.
Kohana: And Kaida does love her entertainment. But back to your request for a favor - I agree – it wouldn’t be wise for Cassandra to stay here. She’d most likely be appalled if he suggested it. She can stay with us as long as she doesn’t mind being on her own a lot.
Asher: I don’t think that will be a problem at all. Eli will be sure to keep her busy.
Kohana: From the little I know about Cassandra I imagine she should be a considerate and interesting guest. Such an intent young lady, very dedicated to her personality studies.
Asher: Hmmm, I’ve recently gotten to know someone who is dedicated like that….and I can attest to the fact that she has been very interesting to get to know……….I wonder who that might be……?
Kohana: Hush you, and stop teasing me. I’m doing you a favor, remember? You want to stay on my good side.
Asher: From where I’m sitting, all your sides look good.
Kohana: So it’s back to bribery then? Flattery in exchange for this favor?
Asher: Not me. I already got what I wanted. Why would I resort to bribery?
(she gives him a meaningful look)
Asher: Oh yeah, there is that.
