At Sunset

Continued from “Intended”

Author’s Note: The scenes comprising this little story were all discarded from the main story for one reason or another. For those who might enjoy a little more extensive glimpse into Asher and Kohana’s relationship, I re-arranged the cut scenes into a follow up to the main event, Asher’s proposal.

This story will remain exclusive to the website.

Kohana: This was so nice. Will you keep the house here, do you think?
Asher: Probably. Although if I sold it, I could afford a nice, big house for us right away.
Kohana: We don’t need a big house. It isn’t necessary, and we’re both too busy to keep up a big place right now, don’t you think?

Asher: You’re right. So where would you like to live after we’re married?
Kohana: Well, until Kaida is off on her own, it would be easiest if you moved in with me. With us.
Asher: What will Kaida have to say about that?
Kohana: You know Kaida. She’ll be thrilled for us. She already considers you her honorary big brother, so I know she’ll be pleased to have you around all the time. It may not be ideal, but it could work, don’t you think?

Asher: As long as we’re together, it will be perfect.
Kohana: I feel exactly the same. I love….
Asher: I love you.
Kohana: ….you…..

Asher: We better pack up the car if you still want to head out before sunrise tomorrow.
Kohana: I do. I love seeing the sun come up when we’re driving through the mountains.

Kohana takes the afghan indoors while Asher stays to move the bench back under the eaves. On his way inside, he pauses to reflect…

Asher: She really makes me happy, Grandma. The only thing I wish is that you were here right now to say “I told you so.”

Asher: Because if you were, and you did, I would immediately say….

Asher: You were absolutely right.

Kohana: Ohhh, your hands are cold!

Asher: They won’t be for long.
Kohana: Eeeeep, stop tha…….

Asher: There, all warmed up.
Kohana: Oh my, yes

Kohana: Did I hear you talking to someone outside?
Asher: My uh….grandmother.

Kohana: Oh really.
Asher: *sheepish* Yeah.
Kohana: Well, Asher Williamson, the next time you feel the need to keep me waiting so you can have a little chat with your grandmother…

Kohana: …Tell her I said hello, and send her my love.
