Another Letter

Jacie: Oh!

Ben: Ma? Something wrong?
Jacie: No, nothing Ben. Just a little note from …. someone I wasn’t expecting to hear from.

Ben: Not bad news, I hope?
Jacie: Oh, no, nothing like that. Just a bit puzzling.

Ben: Uncle Seth hittin’ you up for a loan?
Jacie: No, Dear….. how on earth do you know about that?
Ben: Grandpa. He used to get so pissed off when your baby brother would call expectin’ you to cover his shortfall.

Jacie: You’re too observant for your own good, Benjamin Bluefield. But that was ages ago; your Uncle Seth doesn’t contact me at all anymore – not for anything. I wish he would, even if it was only to borrow money.
Ben: Guess he’s got no use for us anymore.
Jacie: Oh, no, Ben, that’s not true! He……..

Ben: So you gonna tell me what’s in your letter?

Jacie: No, I‘m not. *smiles*
Ben: Oh yeah, sure. Be that way. Next time you ask me where I went on some date or what I did, I’m just gonna smile and shut the heck up.

Jacie: Ben. I was eighteen once, and I watched my brother muddlin’ through the trials and tribulations of that age. I don’t have to ask you what you do on your dates. No matter where you start out, I know you eventually try to wind up down at Johnson’s Creek. And I know why.

Ben: Yikes. Think I’ll go practice.

Jacie: *smiles* You do that, Darlin’.
